Babb dominates Davenport MLRA event
DAVENPORT, Ia. – Shannon Babb led all thirty laps en route to victory Friday, in the Lucas Oil MLRA race held at the Davenport Speedway. Babb was never tested in the feature, despite a couple cautions that came midway through the race.
This wasn’t Babb’s first victory at the Davenport half-mile. But, it was the first in a long, long time. Shannon’s last win here, was July 09, 2000 at a U.M.P. Summer Nationals event.
Jordan Yaggy and Hudson O’Neal had a fierce battle for second throughout much of the race. In the final ten laps, O’Neal secured the spot and started to pull away from Yaggy, who would finished third.
The winners of the last two MLRA races at Davenport, Chad and Chris Simpson moved up through the field, after the cautions. The brothers would finish fourth and fifth respectively. Bobby Pierce was third, until becoming one of the mid-race cautions, would recover to finish seventh.
Drivers from seven states took part in the Lucas Oil MLRA Late Model event.
Jeff Larson would jump out to an early lead in the Modified main. Larson held off Justin Kay down the stretch for the win. Kay finished second. Third went to Travis Denning, while Chris Zogg and Eric Barnes rounded out the top five.
A front row starting spot was all Tyler Soppe needed to win the SportMod feature. Soppe led flag to flag for the win. Curtis VanDerWal came from a fifth row starting spot to make a race out of it, but would have to settle for second. Finishing third was Ryan Walker, followed by Jarrett Franzen and Jerry Miles, in that order.
Jeff Struck Jr. cruised to victory in Street Stock action. Cary Brown led the first lap of the feature, before Struck took control. Jesse Owen finished second, followed by Cary Brown, Erick Turner, and Austin Riggs.
