Lucas oil MLRA drivers honored at annual Awards Banquet

By Trenton Berry (Wheatland, MO) -- Over the weekend the Lucas Oil MLRA celebrated the 2017 season at the annual championship awards banquet. This year it was held at Gobbler's Roost in Nevada, Missouri. In addition to the distribution of the season ending points fund, several special awards were presented too.

Terry Phillips was the final driver of the evening to accept his awards. His championship share of the points fund was $15,000. Overall the title for Phillips is his fourth. He won a series high four races this past season.

Rodney Sanders was the year's runner up and also the Sunoco Race Fuels Rookie of the Year. He took a year end check worth $7,500, plus an additional $2,500, and six barrels of fuel for winning the Sunoco Rookie of the Year title. He was also the Casey's General Stores Hard Charger of the year, gaining 99 positions over the course of the season. He took an extra $500 for that honor.

Jesse Stovall finished third and among his honors include the "Malvern Bank Most Laps Led" award worth $1,000. He paced the field for 107 laps this season.

Randy Timms, with two wins this season, finished fourth. JC Wyman completed the top five an earned a Fast Shafts certificate worth $200. Sixth in the final points rundown belonged to Tony Jackson Jr.. He also secured the "RacingJunk.com Hard Luck" award and an accompanying check for $500.

Seventh and eighth place belonged to Jeremy Grady Grady and Payton Looney. Grady was also runner up in the Sunoco Rookie of the Year chase. He received $1,500 for his efforts in addition to his point fund money. Looney was the final driver on attendance, and took a $500 check from DirtOnDirt.com among other contingencies, for qualifying up front the most this past season.

There were a host of other contingencies and the Lucas Oil MLRA officials thank each marketing partner for their valued support throughout the year.

This week kicks off the 30th Annual Performance Racing Industry Trade Show at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. Series Director Ernie Leftwich and staff will be in attendance. If you are able to make it to the show, be sure to stop by the Lucas Oil booth #4501.
